Pumpkin-flavored lattes. Pumpkin-flavored donuts. Pumpkin-flavored... pumpkin. Pumpkin's publicist has been working overtime this season - seemingly more so than years past. But don't give in to pumpkin fatigue just yet. Even if you don't share my affinity for pumpkin-everything, that's OK. You'll want to get your hands on this award-winning Sons of Liberty Spirits Company's Seasonal Release - Pumpkin Spice Whiskey. This stuff is what pumpkin season is all about. They actually use REAL pumpkins. Thirty two thousand pounds of pumpkin, to be exact. This spirit brings the warmth of a great single malt whiskey and familiar fall spices without the cloying sweetness oft associated with autumnal tipples.
Unless you have a trusted SOL mule friend around the Rhode Island area, you're probably shit out of luck. Here's what you're missing: SOL started with one of their American single malts. Then, a group of volunteers washed, cut, cored, roasted and pressed 16 tons of Carpenter's Farm's delicious gourds. Next, the fresh pumpkin juice and single malt are blended together and infused with cinnamon, clove, sweet orange peel, vanilla, and allspice. This, ladies and gentlemen, is how the World's Best Flavoured Whiskey of 2014 was made.
Mike Reppucci, Proprietor of Sons of Liberty Spirits, says this whiskey expresses the essence of autumn in New England while still respecting the whiskey itself. I say I want to take a trip north to visit SOL distillery. Good luck finding this one folks but, when you do, it'll all be worth it. I promise.
