Strawberry Mint Julep

It’s only an official mint julep if it’s made with the Official Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby. Woodford Reserve proudly holds that title. And this southern cocktail is the traditional Derby Day drink crafted from bourbon, simple syrup and mint.
If you don’t have an ice crushing machine, place ice in the bottom of a shaker tin and use a muddler (and all your might) to crush it. Another idea? Place the ice in a cloth bag or a zip lock bag and pound it with a mallet (again, using all your might).
Ingredients (for 2)
3.4 oz. Woodford Reserve
1 oz. Strawberry Preserves
Dried Strawberries
Fresh Mint Leaves
Crushed or Cracked Ice
Place 3 mint leaves in each glass. Use a muddler to gently muddle the leaves. Just do this enough to express the oil, without grinding it further. Rub the leaves inside the glass. To the same glass, add crushed ice (see tip on flip side of this card) strawberry preserves, bourbon, dried strawberries (reserve a few) and crushed ice. Stir. Finally, crush a few of the dried strawberries in a dry bowl or cup using your muddler or the back of a spoon. Sprinkle the dust over each cock- tail. Garnish with more mint.
