My friend Cam Dawson, has been Jack Daniel's UK Brand Ambassador for the past 2-years. We first met at a bar in Brighton, UK 9-years ago, when I ordered an Old Fashioned from him and raised a big smile.
So while I'm loving life out in the US, Cam is flying the flag for Tennessee Whiskey across Britain. Contrary to popular belief, Jack Daniel's is not a bourbon. It's dripped through 10-feet of firmly packed charcoal (made from hard sugar maple) before going into new charred oak barrels for aging. The mellowing process through the charcoal is what makes it Tennessee Whiskey, and produces that distinctive smooth flavor. Cam also tells me that they are also the only distillery to have its own delicates barrel cooperage.
I think he could talk about Jack for hours, the recipe Cam - share your recipe!
