Tequila Sunrise

There’s nothing quite like a Tequila Sunrise. And I don’t mean watching the sun rise because you’ve been up all night drinking tequila, although that could be fun too.

The Tequila Sunrise is a fairly simple and recent cocktail, created in the 1930’s for the way it looks in the glass. This drink contains tequila, orange juice and grenadine. Because of its heavy density, the grenadine sinks to the bottom and makes the cocktail resemble a beautiful sunrise. I also like to add a squirt of lime to the drink to give it a little tartness and some extra color. It is served in a rocks glass.

We served this at a Cinco De Mayo brunch and our guests enjoyed it. They liked that it appeared like it was going to be very sweet, but was actually strong.

As we head into Memorial Day Weekend, this is a great drink for summer.
