Combination of Jameson and Yellow Chartreuse might not sound like a match made in heaven at first, But throw in some Gancia bianco and chocolate bitters and you’ve got a great cocktail.
Irish whiskey ran out of desired popularity after Prohibition and has never quite recovered, compared to scotch or bourbon, which is a shame. I personally find Jameson whiskey preferable to other irish whiskies because of it's more essentially "grounded" flavor profile and the fact that once it's in, it's in and not lingering in your mouth for ages like many other whiskies.
When it comes to old-school liqueurs, I just can’t get over my Chartreuse obsession. Unmistakeable and a fascinating, liqueur that adds great depth and complexity to any cocktails. And for this particular cocktail, I've found out that Yellow one works way better than his green elder brother. (Both are delicious, don't get me wrong)
Allow me to present you all "The Alchemist"
Ingredients:
- 45ml Jameson Irish Whiskey
- 15ml Yellow Chartreuse
- 20ml Vanilla & Cinnamon infused bianco vermouth*
- Chocolate bitters
Method:
Stir all ingredients with ice in a mixing glass and strain into chilled Coupe with a small block Ice. Garnish with a zest of lemon.
*Vanilla & Cinnamon infused Gancia Bianco: Infuse cut vanilla pods and few sticks of cinnamon in Gancia Bianco vermouth for couple of days or sous-vide it for faster result. Make sure not to over do it, discard as soon as you reach desired taste and strain it using a muslin cloth as you don't want those small particles in your cocktail.
