Each year, one singular cocktail is named the official cocktail of Tales of the Cocktail. This year the Frozen Daiquiri reigns supreme.

And, out of a slew of competitors, the Desert Lily from Spencer Weaver is the winner. According to drinks writer/competition judge Sarah Baird, who helped choose the final victor,

“The Desert Lily is a spin on the daiquiri that’s both fresh and refreshing. Spencer’s creation pays tribute to the frozen drink’s storied history while making imaginative use of flavors that taste like a sip-able oasis from the summer sun. I plan on relying on one (or a few) to help battle the heat during Tales this week.”

According to Weaver’s submission, his inspiration was as follows:

Inspiration: “I’m picturing me sunburnt on a hot summer day trying to find ways to cool down. What is better than just rubbing aloe onto your sunburn arms, than adding that refreshing flavor into a cocktail to help cool yourself down. Aloe and prickly are both warm climate plants that add a refreshing flavor to a hot summer day. I wanted to add the hint of floral honey in the nose of Caña Brava Rum, so I added a few drops of Lavender Water. This cocktail should cool you down while sipping it on a hot summer day.”

Here’s the recipe:
