The Hurricane was invented back in the 1940's at Pat O'Briens bar in New Orleans because of an overstock of rum that his distributors forced him to buy. Seeing as he didn't know how to get rid of all the rum he came up with the Hurricane drink recipe in order to get rid of it. It is called the Hurricane because of the glass, which is hurricane lamp-shaped. There is another version in the Bahamas called the Nassau. This is my version, which is a twist on both of the drinks.
Ingredients
- 2 oz 10 Cane Light Rum
- 2 oz Myers Dark Rum
- 1/2 oz Bacardi 151 Rum
- 2 oz Passion Fruit Juice
- 1 oz Cranberry Juice
- 1 oz Orange Juice
- 1/2 Lime Juice
- Orange Slice and a Cherry
Directions
- Fill a Hurricane Glass with crushed ice
- Pour in the 10 Cane Light Rum, Myers Dark Rum, and all of the juices
- Pour what you have in the glass into a shaker tin and shake until mixed through. Pour back into Hurricane glass
- Float the Bacardi 151 Rum over the top of the drink
- Garnish: Orange Slice and Cherry
***You can set this drink on fire if you want, but be careful and do not burn your house down***
