Old Fashioned

A city signature, the old-fashioned was purportedly born behind the bar at Louisville's Pendennis Club around 1889. The club's events and catering manager, Dana Cirelli, shares the original recipe:

Pendennis Club Old-Fashioned

Ingredients:
1 tsp. simple syrup (or ½ lump of sugar)
½ slice orange
1 cherry with stem
1 lemon twist
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Ice (1 to 2 cubes)
2 ½ oz. fine Kentucky bourbon

Preparation:
Combine first 5 ingredients in a traditional old-fashioned glass. Muddle with a wooden pestle, then add ice and bourbon. Stir well to chill. you can add a splash of water if you prefer.
