“I like it, I’ll have another!” *Thor smashes a coffee cup* And that is how you do that. Personally, I’m not a big coffee fan. OK, that’s a bit of a downplay, I really can’t stand coffee. Alice, on the other hand, is quite the coffee fan. Freshly grinding beans, French press, just the right amount of this and that — you know, coffee fan. However, I am a big Thor fan. (Just admire my Mjolnir necklace to prove it.) Presumably, I can thank my mother and Scandinavian heritage for this. Consequently, I couldn’t let Thor go unquenched. Enter Thor’s Coffee!

Yeah, so, I mean, I don’t drink anything with coffee — absolutely zero. However, this, this I will drink. Let me take you back to the amusing Marvel movie where Thor gets tossed out of Valhalla and goes to majestic New Mexico.

Majestic! Awe inspiring! Full of coffee!

New Mexico made me think of Mexico made me think of Kahlua. See that? That’s what we call divine Nordic inspiration right there.

To please the thunder god, we must imbue this cocktail with coffee. Kahlua is that coffee.

Also, to please the thunder god, we must acknowledge his Nordic ancestry. I don’t know about how they do it where you come from, but where I come from, when you think Viking party, you think mead. (Or Glogg, which I’m 100% good with, but that’s another post.)

There we are at our base: Kahlua meets mead to please Thor!

I’ve heard (Alice tells me), that coffee usually has some cream in there. I figure it’s to hide the coffee flavor, but who am I to argue? So cream goes into it too! None of that light stuff though, this is Thor we’re talking about here. He can handle a few extra calories without worrying about them.

At this point, I realized, “Hang on, that’s just a White Russian.” Huh. Sure enough. Except with mead instead of vodka! See? Big difference.

Seriously though, the mead will give you a rounder, fuller flavor. There’s more on the mid-palate if you really want to get super flavor nerdy about it.

Then to balance all of these flavors out and give them a little mocha love, chocolate bitters! Yes.

The glory. The amazement. Coffee good enough for a thunder god.

Recipe type: Drinks

Servings: 1

• 2 oz. Kahlua
• 1 oz. mead
• 1 oz. cream
• 2 dashes of chocolate bitters
• Glass type: old fashioned

1. Add all of your ingredients to your shaker with ice.
2. Shake.
3. Hear the heavens crash.
4. Feel Mjolnir fly by you.
5. Stop shaking.
6. Put ice in your glass.
7. Pour into your glass.
8. Garnish with requisite Mjolnir ice cubes.
9. Know that Thor is smiling.
10. Skol!
