Thyme for Something Delicious

It’s Monday and I’m bored. So what better to do than make a cocktail?! I received some really great samples of a high-quality clementine puree to try out and I’ve been tinkering with a great sour cocktail. Bourbon sounded like a no-brainer of a base spirit choice, and I have some fresh thyme still in the icebox that could use a little spirituous love. Plus, I love any opportunity to make a cocktail that I can apply some tongue-in-cheek names too, and let’s face it, thyme tends to be an ingredient with a name that loves to be played with. So, without further adieu, let’s get mixin’! Cheers.
Clemen-thyme Sour
1 1/2 oz Bourbon
1/2 oz Amaro Montenegro
1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
1 Tbs Clementine Puree*
1 tsp Superfine Sugar
1/3 tsp Fresh Thyme Leaves
1 Egg White
Fresh Sprig of Thyme for Garnish
Combine ingredients in a mixing glass, and hard shake without ice for 10 seconds. Add ice and shake hard for another 10 seconds. Fine strain into a Double Old Fashioned glass with fresh ice. Garnish and enjoy.
*Note: While I used a pre-made puree for this cocktail, you can make your own clementine puree by using the freshly grated peels of 6 orange and their meat and puree with about 1 oz simple syrup till smooth. Refrigerate for up to 1 week.
