Bourbon has proven itself as a stand out contender of the spirits over the past few years with its resurgence and extreme popularity. We have watched the revival of pre-prohibition cocktails as well as the creations of a savvy new generation of mixologists. Whatever the cocktail, bourbon may be at its heart.

While Congress might disappoint us today, we were delighted and proud in 2007 when our legislators decreed September to be National Bourbon Heritage Month. Here is some great bourbon that may not be on your radar to celebrate this special month.
DevilsCutslider
Jim Beam Devil’s Cut Bourbon Whiskey 6 YO

This historic distillery has kept quiet for too many years. Now they want to play with the big boys, Jim Beam Devil’s Cut is a unique bourbon made by a process that extracts the rich flavors trapped deep inside the barrels’ wood and combines it with a top of the line 6 year old bourbon whiskey to create a robust new blend with robust flavors and character.

angels Envy rye bourbon

Angel’s Envy Rye Bourbon

If Nirvana came in a liquid form, Angel’s Envy Rye Bourbon Whisky would be the certain path to it. Angel’s Envy Rye is something special. This heavenly creation goes through a unique six-year aging process that involves charred white oak barrels, ruby port wine casks, and Caribbean rum casks. As you would expect from a rye, it’s a bit more biting and bold than the original. On the nose, there’s rich vanilla and spice, evoking a very expensive dessert. On the tongue, it’s just about the smoothest rye we’ve sipped, despite the fact that it’s bottled at 100 proof.

rock hill farms bourbon

Rock Hill Farms Single Barrel Bourbon

Made by the famed Buffalo Trace, Rock Hill Farms Single Barrel Bourbon may soon be on the hot list of bourbons you cannot get. But for now, enjoy this smooth and balanced whiskey while you can!

Corsair Single Barrel Triple Smoke

Corsair Triple Smoke Bourbon Whiskey

Oh my lord, this stuff. “Sophisticated” is an understatement. Barley malted and smoked with not one but three (hence the name, duh) fuel sources; cherry, peat and beechwood. Your average whisky might take on a signature earthiness and woody characteristics, but Triple Smoke dials these qualities up at least five notches. So technically this makes it something other than a whiskey, not a scotch, just incredibly complex booze deserving of praise. It’s a wonderful example of a very advanced whisky that demands a bit of time to savor.

Willet Bourbon Bottle

Willett Reserve Bourbon

Probably the most unique and beautiful bourbon bottle we have seen.  Bottled in an elegant glass pot still decanter, Willet Reserve is soft and elegant on the nose and palate, and very well balanced. Each bottle is sealed with a label identifying the individual aging barrel, the number of the bottle within the series of bottles for that barrel, and the total number of bottles from the barrel.

Jeffersons Presidential 21Select Bourbon

Jefferson’s Presidential Select 21-Year-Old Single Barrel Bourbon

Jefferson’s Presidential Reserve 21 Year Old is wheated Bourbon distilled in 1991 during the last season of distillation at the iconic Stitzel-Weller Distillery. Stitzel-Weller Distillery was formed by the original “Pappy” of the great Pappy Van Winkle Bourbons. Since Pappy Van Winkle is impossible to find, this is your chance to get another great Bourbon while the limited supply lasts.

Hochstadter’s Slow and Low Rock & Rye

Hochstadter’s Slow and Low Rock & Rye

Hochstadter’s Slow and Low Rock & Rye

Hochstadter may be hard to spell but once you see their marketing its hard to forget!  For an Old Fashioned without the fuss. This is the most delicious ready made old fashioned we have tried, its even better than my homemade old fashiones! Made with pure ‘rock’ candy and aged rye whiskey this is modeled after a 19th century recipe that brings the traditional ‘ROCK & RYE’ back to life. While it’s not technically bourbon, you’ll want to add this one to your liquor cabinet.
