With the oppressive heat and humidity in the tri-state area, I was looking for something complex yet refreshing, a slow sipping drink to cool down the core. The Triple Citrus Double Rum Chiller was the answer. Juice from lemons, limes and oranges, aided and abetted by lemon-lime seltzer, provided plenty of thirst quenching power. Two rums, one light and one dark, along with the bitters and grenadine, provided a web of flavor notes that made each sip interesting.
Recipe (makes two drinks)
Juice of one lemon, one lime and one orange
2 shots dark rum (Barbancourt Five Star would be a great choice)
2 shots light rum (10 Cane is perfect)
1 tbsp grenadine (I like Employees Only - not too sweet)
2 tsps simple syrup
2 dashes bitters (I used Peychaud's but any variety would work.
Lemon-lime Seltzer
Place all ingredients in an cocktail shaker and shake with ice until chilled. Fill two Collins glasses with ice and divide the contents of the shaker between the two glasses. Top off with lemon-lime seltzer, give a stir and decorate with a slice of orange.
