Wasted Away Again in Margaritaville

In contrast to the relationship most of us have with Jose, no matter how bad Margarita may have hurt us in the past, we always end up going back, because nothing can make us feel quite as good.

The origin of the margarita is unknown. Like any good margarita story, there are many different versions, but no one knows the truth. Most of them involve a bartender in a hotel bar naming the drink after a beautiful girl named Margarita.

Traditionally this cocktail is mixed with tequila blanco, triple sec, lime juice and sugar or simple syrup. It can be served on the rocks or frozen, and with or without a salted rim. A fun twist on the drink is a Mexican Bulldog, in which you add an upside down Corona to the frozen margarita.

In my twist on the original, I used agave sweetener in place of sugar as I believe this blends with the tequila better, as tequila is made from the agave plant. I also mixed in St. Germain to add a bit of a flowery taste for Springtime. Everyone agreed that the drink tasted well-blended and refreshing. For the second round, I added ginger to the cocktail, and everyone liked that as well.

So with warm weather finally upon us, and Cinco de Mayo rapidly approaching, it’s time to rekindle our love with Margarita.
