Summer is awesome! The sun shines, we all get our natural vitamin D and the parties are plentiful! The weekends are packed with daytime and evening events — this puts us in double duty fun. But there is a flip side to everything, double the socialite status also equals double the  caloric taxation. The wider waistline in no way works with your need to be bikini ready at any moment — so what are we to do? Find a happy medium!

Maybe it’s me (but I don’t think I’m alone) but having a colorful, carbonated, interesting and tasty drink in my hand at my summer events makes me happy! But booze has 64 calories per ounce. If you’re holding a pint glass, that can easily top itself off with 300-500 calories by the time you add all the typical sugar summer mixers.

So what’s the strategy? Raw Juice Detox Cocktails!

What the heck is that you ask? It’s a the happy medium you need to make your summer fun and keep you bikini ready and healthy at the same time. When you’re sitting poolside and getting bombed isn’t on your agenda, but a fun cocktail is — try one of these!

This is exactly what we did on Saturday and it drew a crowd of 5 fun girlfriends for an impromptu pool party.

So you’re sold on the concept right, but don’t know where to start? Here’s a good recipe and the one we used this weekend. It is high in manganese, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin B6, and vitamin C. How else can you do that for under 50 calories and still fill that “summer cocktail” void?

Raw Juice Detox Cocktail

  • 1/4 fresh beet
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 2 large carrots
  • dash of cinnamon
  • dash of nutmeg
  • 12 oz diet ginger ale or club soda
  • 2 cucumber wheels for garnish

Directions: add fruits and veggies to the juicer. Add spices to raw juice. This will yield 2, but I just quadrupled and filled up the entire juice catcher and put it in a plastic to go bottle. Then we brought down a few bottles of Pierre and ice and we were set for the afternoon. I just filled each poolside glass with ice, then 1/2 juice, then the rest bubbles. Keep the juice cool though, and shake before serving again. Separation is expected and natural, but not aesthetic. So shaking will serve you well.
