There's this stigma behind drinking whiskey with Coca-Cola, at least as I've encountered it. Whenever I would go to a bar to unwind and relax I'd start the night off with one of these cocktails. However, when I would ask for one there is more often than not someone there to cast a negative value judgment over my drink choice.

Like most food and drink, everything comes down to what tastes good to the consumer. For the purposes of this article I sampled Rebel Yell Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey to be the spirit in my Whiskey and Coke. Rebel Yell is already a versatile whiskey with a subtle taste of maple, honey, and even subtler vanilla. So pairing it with Coca-Cola made it taste like a more refined Vanilla Coke. My inner child and my outer adult are satisfied with the results.

The great thing about this cocktail is that there is not just one whiskey to try this with. Granted, I have had some where this combination hasn't worked as well, but then you get the opportunity to try it again with another whiskey of your choice.
