Scotland is the historic home of whisky but in recent years the Japanese have begun beating Scotland at their own game.

Japanese whisky was almost entirely a domestic product for decades until in the early 2000's they began winning international blind tastings. By 2008, at the World Whisky Awards the Best Single Malt and Best Blended Malt and were both Japanese whiskies and the international market began to take notice.

But what is it that makes Japanese whisky so special? We went to Japan to visit Nikka's distilleries to find out, so watch the video above to learn more about a product that is still gaining ground in the whisky world.
