First blog post from Bar De Bex! A Tequila cocktail trying to change your mind about it's bad reputation.

Time Turner

You know, sometimes I don’t think Tequila gets enough love.
Or maybe it’s too much.
Not sure which way to look at it.
But. I think, more often than we’d like to admit maybe, when we hear Tequila…our mind remembers shots. And the shots that led to more shots. And then death that followed. It’s gotten such a reputation from the blurry memories at the questionable bars, the overly spirited Cinco de Mayo celebrations, the unexpected weeknight adventures, and dancing at those clubs you said you’d never go to. So, let’s take a moment and refresh. I want to take a brief sidebar, and bring in the love and life that Tequila can also have—as an attempt to show that it can be a pillow, and not necessarily a headache. So from Bar de Bex, I give you my cocktail, “Time Turner", as my (somewhat) classier and lighter approach to such venom. With my current Croatian pear liqueur obsession in hand, here’s my welcomingly sweet cocktail of pear and lavender with a cloud-like texture to lift you up. Simple. Tasty. And hopefully you’ll remember it in a good way.

Let's concoct:

  • 2 oz Tequila
  • 1 oz Pear Liqueur
  • 2 Pure Sugar Cane Cubes
  • 2 Dashes of Lavender Bitters
  • 1 Egg White
  • Angostura Bitters (garnish)

*Dry shake all ingredients (except Angostura Bitters) with egg white to get the froth, then add ice to chill and shake thoroughly to get the correct consistency. Fine strain into a coupe or martini glass. Pour Angostura Bitters into it’s cap or your jigger, and with a cocktail straw create a simple swirl design on top.
