If you had a bit too much to drink this St. Paddy’s Day, you’re not alone. In addition to being the one day a year that prompts people across the country to incorporate a touch of green into their outfit, and to pinch those who don’t, St. Patrick’s Day is also the fourth most popular holiday when it comes to drinking. And honestly, this isn’t too much of a surprise given the 819% spike in Guinness sales.
But if you’re like most people, you probably forgot to prepare for the hangover munchies prior to your St. Paddy’s Day shenanigans.
Did you stock your fridge and pantry with the best hangover foods? Or download a food delivery app in advance? If not, that’s ok. Because with these drunk meal suggestions, next time, you’ll be ready to go.
Breakfast
If you’ve never indulged in breakfast while hungover, then you’re missing out. Sure, we’ve all come home and poured ourselves a bowl of cereal and maybe even made a pot of coffee after a night on the town, but is making a full-on Saturday-morning-and-your-mom’s-cooking breakfast really worth the hassle? Absolutely.
Not only is breakfast the top drunk meal of choice nationwide, if you do it right, it can also help counteract a night of over-drinking. Pancakes and waffles, for example, which have high carb counts, are great for alcohol absorption. Plus, they’re delicious!
Pizza
Ok, so this one probably seems like a no-brainer, but did you know that when it comes to hangover eating, some pizzas are better than others? It’s true.
As you’ve probably learned by now, nothing you can eat or drink has the power to completely cure a hangover. There are, however, certain nutrients in foods that can help you start feeling better. Peppers and tomatoes, for instance, are packed with vitamin C. And when you pair them with mozzarella and egg, which contain phosphorus and vitamins B2 and B12, you can get the spike of energy you need to get your day going… even if it’s noon.
So the next time you’re hungover and hungry, why not incorporate these nutrient-rich toppings onto your pizza order?
Burgers
When it comes to the most popular hangover foods among Americans, it’s no surprise that burgers also make the cut. And thankfully, between UberEats, Postmates, and Grubhub, there are plenty of delivery apps to choose from if you don’t feel like firing up the grill.
But tastiness aside, can burgers really help alleviate hangover symptoms?
Absolutely-- if you top them with the right nutrient-packed foods, that is. If you’re feeling particularly fatigued, for example, try adding bacon and eggs to your burger, as the nutrients in these foods are notorious energizers.
Sure, you might have to order from a bougie-er burger joint to ensure these toppings are available. But trust us, it will be worth it.
