Hollywood: Rooftop Film Club Takes Over The Montalban

Three readers love this post.
The Rooftop Film Club kicked off this week at The Montalban Theatre in Hollywood. As the name implies, the rooftop turned movie theatre shows films under the stars. With 160 comfy seats, some screenings have already sold out like the Casa Blanca. Currently there are films scheduled until the end of September but plans are to run the club until November. The pinstriped beach chairs were flown in from the UK. As the evenings get cooler, blankets will be provided to snuggle under.
Started in the UK, the Film Club also has screenings in New York. This is the first year in Los Angeles. Tickets are $15 with service charges.
You are given wireless headphones to watch the film. We watched Sunset Boulevard this week and it was a wonderful start to this film series. There’s something magical about watching a film about Tinsel Town in Hollywood. We were mere minutes away from the iconic Sunset Boulevard and you could imagine everything actually happening — that some silent film stars didn’t make the transition very well to talkies.
Here’s the schedule including tonight’s sold out Blade Runner. There are still tickets for Cinema Paradiso and Breakfast at Tiffany’s so get on it! I can’t wait to see the schedule for October and November. Hopefully they’ll bring back some of the sold out movies.
Food and drinks including beer and wine are available for purchase on the rooftop. You might just see a guest bartender here and there. This evening we enjoyed a beer cocktail named after the iconic film, Sunset Boulevard.
Bartender Brady Weise from Rathskeller in Pasadena came up with the signature drink and told me wouldn’t it be great if the club did double features. I’m rooting for your idea, Brady! Perhaps when the sun sets sooner, that’ll be feasible.
The Sunset Boulevard – IPA, Carpano Antica sweet vermouh, lemonade
There are traditional snacks available like popcorn but why not go for a yummy burger from Hache LA. Selling for only $6, it’s probably the cheapest dinner and a movie you’ll find in Hollywood.
Now until November 2015
