It happens. You have some people over. You're ready to shift the party into a higher gear. That means tequila shots. Salt is always on hand, but the only lime you have looks more like an oversized raisin, and you're in no mood (or shape) to drive to the all-night Quik-E-Mart to restock. And doing tequila shots without salt and lime is like trying to make s'mores without chocolate and graham crackers. You're left with something perfectly acceptable, but nowhere near as enjoyable.

Well the agave alchemists over at Hornitos have our lazy butts covered. Their new Lime Shot has the lime and salt right in the bottle, mixed in with their 100% blue agave tequila. No wasting time or energy finding a knife, cutting a lime, looking for a salt shaker, licking your hand… just pour, shoot, repeat.

I was a little dubious as to how this would work. And taste. It reminded me a little of a "put the mayo in the can with the tuna" idea. Genius, but not so good in practice. So I secured a bottle of Lime Shot and grabbed a shot glass. Sniffing the slightly green liquid, I got a good sense of the lime coming through the familiar tequila scent. Then time to taste. One shot in I found you can really taste the lime and just a hint of salt. Not "salty," but just enough to offset and enhance the tequila and lime. The body is light and the finish had a very slight burn. Just enough to remind you this is, after all, a 70 proof adult beverage. Then I did a couple more, just to make sure my first impression held. It did. This is a very "shootable" tequila.

So, will this become your go-to tequila? Not at all. This is strictly a party favor. Like that silk paisley smoking jacket you only take out of the closet for certain gatherings. Hornitos intends it to be for pure, standalone, shot-by-shot enjoyment— they don't recommend mixing it. (Although I'm going to try it in a margarita later.) And "shots only" is perfectly fine, because sometimes you need a luxury ride, and sometimes you need a monster truck. Think of Lime Shot as your party starter in a take anywhere bottle. Without having to worry about finding limes, handling a knife after more than a few shots, or cleaning salt off your furniture coffee table. And if you're partying in a hotel room? It's perfect. Now if they can only figure out a way to build in the lick it, slam it, suck it ritual.
