Let me apologize to all of the Tiki purist out there. This is a mai tai with Scotch. And, it’s great. AND, there’s no Curacao, it’s Grand Marnier.  I’m breaking all of the rules…in a good way. I wanted to make a mai tai with a twist, but still simple. Didn’t have any curacao on hand and didn’t want to use Cointreau so GrandMa it was. I’ll make the classic one of these days.

We made cashew orgeat for another cocktail the same way we made hazelnut orgeat a few posts back. Orgeat is essential to the mai tai. If you don’t want to make your own (I suggest you do…it’s so easy) you can buy some. It’s usually near the coffee syrups in your local specialty store.

A heavy duty ice cream scooper serves well as my ice cracker.

Scotch Mai Tai:

2oz. Scotch [Blended, Such As Famous Grouse]

1oz. Cashew Orgeat

3/4oz. Fresh Lime Juice

1/2oz. Grand Marnier [Or Curacao]

*Add all ingredients to shaker and fill with ice. Shake until chilled. Strain over cracked ice and garnish with lime twist. Cheers!
