soft shell crab sandwich on squid ink bun

soft shell crab sandwich on squid ink bun

New seafood restaurant Sawyer opened in Silver Lake a few months ago. I checked it out one late night and called my snack a second dinner. I was going in for drinks but couldn’t resist the soft shell crab sandwich. I must have made the saddest face when they told me they were out of the squid ink bun but it was pure happiness when it popped up! Isn’t it instagram-swoon-worthy? But what’s even better is it’s a great sandwich! The craft is delicious and there’s the perfect thin battered coating. It comes very close to my favorite soft shell crab sandwich that I’ve been looking for an alternative for the last 10 years.

Do note the sandwich comes with chips but of course we had to order fries which were perfectly golden brown and crispy.

Seconds Count

Seconds Count

My friend had the Seconds Count to drink. It’s a beautiful gin drink rimmed with bee pollen. And it was very refreshing, quite perfect to go with the sandwich.

Seconds Count – Botanist gin, champagne, lavender, honey, lemon, bee pollen

Golden Age

Golden Age

And I had the Golden Age since I’ve been in a rum mood since June. Okay, well, it’s just a great spirit for summer. And on a warm night, this drink was killer.

Golden Age – Smith and Cross rum, white rum, orgeat, orange, lime

I’d love to come back to try the lobster roll, fried chicken or the smoked tea ahi. Other drinks I want to try include the Sanborn (Bonal, curacao, Thai basil, cucumber, lime) and Low End Theory (mezcal, reposado tequila, honey, ginger, lime).
