When I get invited to go to anything at Faith and Flower, I GO. I just can’t get enough of this place. Their cocktail program and their food is legit, not to mention a stunning deco-style/1920’s décor that I dream about every so often. Even though their renowned Chef Michael Hung has moved on, the place is still bustling on any given night. I recently had my pre-wedding dinner there in the beautiful back room and this week I popped back in to sample the drinks from their new spring cocktail menu.
Ryan Wainwright and Darwin Pornel (one of the nicest mixologists I have ever met, btw) have collaborated on the new seasonal cocktail menu at Faith and Flower and broken down the drinks into four categories: Bubbles/Refreshing, Crisp/Clean, Spiritous/Provocative and Faith and Flower Classics.
After a bad cologne-drenched car ride in an Uber to Faith and Flower, I was supremely ready for something from the “refreshing” section so Pornel recommended the Parade Route made with sparking rosé, Rittenhouse Rye, lemon, and Peychauds’ Bitters. I wasn’t used to seeing the rosé/rye combination before but it turned out to be a lovely duo.
I didn’t try everything on the menu, but I will mention some of my cocktail highlights below (hint: try the 9th Street Fix - delish and a beauty). The only drink that was a little left field for my palatte was the Mass Effect made with Mezcal, Ricard Pastis, habanero, mint, pineapple, lime and agave. Perhaps the pastis gave it a little too much “licorice” flavor but that’s just my personal tastebuds talking (that aren’t a big fan of black licorice) – others seemed to really like it.
• Shiso Easy Tequila Blanco, Contratto Bianco, Shiso, Cucumber, Lime ($14)
• St. Tropez Daisy Rhum Agricole, Ferrand Dry Curacao, Honey, Lime, Orange Bitters ($14)
• Parade RouteSparkling Rosé, Rittenhouse Rye, Lemon, Peychaud’s Bitters ($15)
• 9th St. Fix Vodka, Mandarine Napoleon, Raspberry Cordial, Lemon ($15)
Of course, one of the faithful standouts is still their famous English Milk Punch (Navy-Strength Rum, Aged Spanish Rum, White Rum, Bourbon, Curacao, Brandy, Batavia Arrack, Pernod Absinthe, Sencha tea, pineapple, cinnamon, clove, coriander, clarified milk). I swear, I seem to love it a little more each time I taste it…
