Every bar in LA likes to brag that it serves the best cocktails in town.

It's time we settle this.

Outside of holding tryouts, the best way to crown a cocktail is the May Mix Off, pitting bartenders from the best watering holes in Los Angeles against one another.

Every Wednesday in May, The Mixing Room at the J.W. Marriott hosts eight competitors in two rounds of mixology madness — one with a known spirit and the other, after round one eliminations, with a mystery bottle.

Entrants include the SLS, Harvard & Stone, Eveleigh, Wellesbourne, The Famous, Mas Malo/Malo, No Vacancy, and Brian Summers (formerly of The Parish).

So you know competition will be fierce as they perfect their pours for a panel of expert judges — including Rachel Burkons of Tasting Panel magazine. (You've got a subscription, right?)

Ladies and gentlemen, start your cocktail shakers.
