This year the trend is supposed to enforce spicy cocktails and what better way to start 2016 than with a hell of a spicy añejo tequila called Soltado.

There is no doubt Soltado will play well in a cocktail, perhaps more so than a typical anejo tequila because it brings the fire, quite literally. Soltado Tequila isn’t called a spicy anejo for nothing! It brings a nice hot spicy burn that doesn’t just stop at the tongue, it coats your mouth just like a hot pepper.

This natural and organic tequila takes the flavor of pepper and brings it to your palate and Soltado does it without having to carry along with it any vinegar like a Tabasco sauce or other pepper sauce. While vinegar can play in a cocktail, it requires a lot more balancing of your ingredients with the additional acidity and vinegar flavor. However, tequila transports the essence of the hot pepper easily and that spice will be transported into your cocktails as well.

One thing Soltado does, in a cocktail, is allow the heat to become slightly muted and creep up near the finish of the drink. It is not lost, but it does have a slightly less ripping pepper feel on the palate, which is nice.

Is Soltado a sipping tequila? For those that enjoy the heat, definitely. For everyone else, it will be a key player in this years spicy trend in the cocktail industry.
