Colorado USBG Chapter follows with promising election
Last week, the Colorado Bartenders Guild held a general meeting announcing the details of their upcoming officer elections and the restructuring of the guild at the national level. The meeting, now a quarterly event, was lead by the current staff of governing officers: Vice President Alexandra Parks of Acorn, Secretary Allie Geppert of Star Bar, and Treasurer Noah Heaney of Coohills, Board Advisor Anika Zappe of Star Bar and Events Coordinator Chad Michael George of Williams & Graham. A promising crowd of motivated bar professionals and affiliates cleared their schedules to voice their opinions, concerns, and kudos at the meeting and showed promise for an even brighter future for the already over-achieving guild.
Because the USBG as a national organization has almost tripled in membership across the country in the last three years, the national governing body has dedicated a search committee to fill the Executive Director seat, now a paid position. Aaron Gregory Smith, General Manager and operating partner of San Francisco’s 15 Romolo, turned in his letter of resignation as the USBG Treasurer to assume the appointment of Interim USBG Executive Director until the search ends on October 31st: he also is among the likely candidates. In his letter, he acknowledges the growing concern for providing support to local chapters, “We are in the process of creating the infrastructure needed to deliver the results you are asking for and providing you with the support to continue the amazing work you’ve begun in your chapters.”
The transition will continue to expand the capabilities of local chapters, continuing to support the efforts to independently raise funds, establish strategic community partnerships, and make strategic executive-level decisions. The local chapters will be supported with a dedicated full-time Membership Coordinator at the national level, which is another newly formed paid position. In Smith’s letter, he also addresses that the “primary goal for 2014 is providing our chapters with the tools needed to produce quality educational programming,” which will support an organic development in chapters nation-wide.”
With changes in order, the current governing board of the Colorado Bartenders Guild has decided to reflect the national transitions with a board member election. Allie Geppert, who represented Colorado at the 2013 USBG Leadership Conference last month, shares the board’s decision to commence early elections, “we want to be sure to have a strong, experienced and committed board into place before the beginning of 2014.” The election process has commenced since the first general meeting held last week and the nomination-lines are open. We look forward to seeing the USBG and COBG strategies put to work in coming months, the foundations have been set for great strides in coming years.
